808 933 1295 The Phlebotomy Technician Program offered at Hawaii Institute of Healthcare & Training Services (HIHTS) is a fifty (50) hours intensive course. About thirty (30%) percent of the class time is spent for classroom lecture, and lab work is seventy (70%) percent.
Under the careful supervision of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician or a Nurse Instructor, students will draw blood on each other. Students may also participate in a hospital laboratory or outpatient field trips. Students should complete at least thirty (30) blood draws to satisfy requirements for certification. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a certificate.

A Phlebotomist generally works in a clinical laboratory under the supervision of an appropriate technologist. The Phlebotomist is primarily responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.
This is a 30 – 35 hour class and it will be focusing on teaching the principles and skills of Phlebotomy.

(808) 246 1115 The course of study for Phlebotomy Technician is the proper venipuncture in the collection of blood samples for laboratory testing, with an overview of the different types of skin involved. The technician also is responsible for specimen distribution to the correct testing areas in the lab and record keeping. Anatomy, physiology and maintenance of various lab equipment are also covered in the course.
For completion of the course a student needs 25 Venipuncture, 5 Capillary draws and must meet any additional requirements of the State of Hawaii.

The program includes a 64 hour didactic class taught on campus and a 100-hour internship in a clinic or hospital. Upon successful completion, participants are eligible to take the national certification exam provided by the American Association of Clinical Pathology (ASCAP).
