The phlebotomist’s primary function is to assist the healthcare team in the accurate, safe, and reliable collection and transportation of specimens for clinical laboratory testing. Classes meet on campus (40 hours) with variable clinical experiences at local hospitals or clinics. Students will complete a minimum of 40 hours of theory, 100 hours of clinical training and orientation in an accredited laboratory, and 100 successful unaided blood collections including venipuncture and skin punctures.
This course meets the eligibility requirements for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry in Phlebotomy Technician (PBT-ASCP). Students that complete this course can apply for certification through the ASCP Board of Registry to become certified as a PBT-ASCP.
